The “I Do Not Consent to Forced Marriage” campaign aims to raise public awareness about forced marriages and to inform young people, parents, professionals, and the wider public about the risks and consequences of this form of exploitation.
Forced marriage is not a choice!
Deeply rooted dynamics of power, control, and inequality make the exploitation of women and girls—especially through forced marriage—a persistent and harmful practice in our country.
We strive to challenge and change harmful norms and contribute to sustainable and systemic change.
Through workshops, discussions, promotional materials, and regional activities, the campaign encourages communities to:
- recognize warning signs,
- provide support to potential victims,
- promote the right to free choice and child protection.
The goal is to jointly create effective mechanisms and practices that ensure protection, support, and an authentic voice for survivors.
Read our Statement on Tackling Forced Marriage and Human Trafficking published on 8 March 2025 to mark International Women’s Day, where we outline the urgent need for a coordinated and human rights-based response.
This campaign is part of the broader work of Open Gate / La Strada North Macedonia on the prevention of human trafficking and the protection of vulnerable groups. It is implemented with the support of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, in partnership with La Strada International.
