For the position of the Community worker
Background
The Association for Action Against Violence and Trafficking in Human Beings Open Gate/La Strada has been working for 23 years on prevention, education, assistance and support as well as representation of victims of human trafficking and sexual violence. Open Gate is a leading self-sustained organization in the Republic of North Macedonia, acknowledged on both national and international level. It is renowned for its commitment, persistence and professionalism, as well as its focus on the needs and interests of trafficked persons and vulnerable communities. Since 2014, the organization has offered a wide range of direct outreach services to asylum seekers and refugees and has so far provided support and assistance to a large number of people transiting or living in the country, focusing on the most vulnerable. Currently, the organization implementing an integration program for social empowerment and inclusion of asylum seekers within the host society by offering services at the Reception Center for Asylum Seekers in Vizbegovo. Committed to asylum seekers welfare and successful integration, through various initiatives, our team enhances inclusion and support for the asylum seekers, improving their access to essential rights and services, with a significant emphasis on addressing their mental well-being. Open Gate’s methodology focuses on integrating asylum seekers’ specific needs into sustainable programs for social inclusion, promoting their access to education, social services, and self-sufficiency.
Purpose and Scope of Assignment
The activity is envisaged to involve young individuals from Ukraine who are residing in North Macedonia. The objective is to empower displaced youth by offering meaningful engagement opportunities. During their stay in the host country, young individuals from Ukraine may benefit from various opportunities provided by the civil society organizations linked with the youth empowerment as critical aspect of sustainable development.
This investment will equip the youth with practical skills, enhance their employability, and will contribute to their long-term success. Moreover, their involvement in the civil society organizations will add value to their daily tasks and positively impact their work.
In addition, Ukrainian community can derive benefits from a range of community-oriented activities that will receive support from fellow citizens. Specifically, young individuals from Ukraine who are engaged as community workers will facilitate communication between the organizations and the Ukrainian community.
The following Terms of Reference (TORs) describe the role of Community Worker and the activities to be carried out by them in La Strada funded by UNHCR.
The community worker will work under the direct supervision of La Strada and will be briefed/trained on the standards of behavior, tasks and obligations, etc.
Location: La Strada premises.
Duration: The work will be performed for a duration of four hours daily and will last for three months starting from 1 June 2024 – 31 August 2024
Number of community workers: 1
Payment: The selected community worker will receive a monthly remuneration of 6 550 MKD
Main tasks:
- Attend orientation session at La Strada HQ office at the beginning of the engagement;
- Work closely with a designated mentor who will monitor the work and progress;
- Attend and participate in all the required trainings and workshops organized by La Strada;
- Translate documents for the benefit of displaced persons and provide interpretation services to facilitate the communication between the Ukrainian community and staff from La Strada and other relevant entities;
- Participate in the implementation of the profiling exercise involving Ukrainian community and follow-up actions;
- Perform other tasks as required.
Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years of age or older;
- Good command of English language;
- Native speaker in Ukrainian;
- Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, national and age sensitivity and adaptability;
- Strong interpersonal skills, and ability to promote collaboration;
- Flexibility and ability to multi-task;
- Knowledge of Macedonian language is preferred but not a requirement;
